SATURDAY LUNCH, SPOTLIGHT ON PINOT
POSTED 14 AUGUST 2019

Pinot is the most versatile grape creating wonderful wines offering a number of representations with diverse levels of deliciousness.  Throughout August, in the spirit of the leisurely lunch, we will be treating our Saturday lunch guests to an array of different pinots from white, grey through to blush as we focus on the pinot grape. We asked our Sommelier Simon Curkovic why the Pinot grape is so important:

“It can be said that mothervine pinot has evolved into many variants over millennia as a highly sexually charged vine. From white, grey (whether as a French or Italian iteration), rose from black (really which is white from black) - or black.”

Grey                                       2018 Ross Hill ‘Pinnacle Series’ Pinot Gris  - Orange

White from Black                   2018 Farr Rising Saignée Pinot Noir Rosé – Geelong

Black                                       2018 Dirty Three ‘All the Dirts’ Pinot Noir - South Gippsland

Black and Spiced                    2018 Yarra Yering ‘Light Dry Red’ Pinot (Noir) Shiraz - Yarra Valley

CAFE SYDNEY LOVES…GOURMET TRAVELLER WINE AWARDS
POSTED 13 AUGUST 2019

We’re thrilled to announce our wine list curated by Sommelier Simon Curkovic has yet again won Gourmet Traveller Wine’s, Wine List of the Year award for Best Listing of Australian Wines and we’re so grateful for the review below:

“With almost 50 wines by the glass, patrons can sample a wide range of varieties from classic wineries (Clonakilla, Freycinet, Tyrrell’s) and emerging heroes (Clyde Park, Hughes and Hughes, and Stargazer); tiny producers (Eloquesta, Domaine Simha) and multi-nationals (Jacob’s Creek, Salomon Estate).

More importantly, it’s the quality of the choices that experienced sommelier, Simon Curkovic, makes which set the list at Cafe Sydney apart. A focus on Tasmania is detailed and thought-provoking with some unexpected introductions and surprises galore.”

Our thanks to the Australian winemakers whose wines have contributed to this award. With our spectacular Sydney Harbour views, it’s only right that we celebrate the best of the Australian wine industry. Simon and his team would love to share their knowledge with you on your next visit. We hope to pour you a glass soon!

THE CAFE SYDNEY SALTED CARAMEL MARTINI
POSTED 10 MARCH 2016

As leading go to guide, Urban List said when naming our Salted Caramel Martini No 7 in its top 50 Best Cocktails “its not just Cafe Sydney’s sweeping panoramic views that make it such a popular destination….. it’s the perfect spot for a long lunch, romantic dinner or a celebratory cocktail.” But don’t wait to for a celebration to enjoy this totally decadent liquid indulgence. Our Cafe Sydney mixologists have perfected the right balance of vodka, schnapps, kahlua, salted caramel sauce and yes, fresh cream. Try it at home too.

Cafe Sydney’s Salted Caramel Martini:
30ml x 42 Below Vodka
15ml x Teichenne Butterscotch Schnapps
15ml x Kahlua
20ml x Salted Caramel sauce
20ml x Fresh Cream

Coat a martini glass rim with sea salt (try rubbing a thin layer of Schnapps around the rim to help the salt stick)
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice
Briskly shake, then strain into glass
Enjoy
